Genesis Owusu has shared his first new music of 2025: A single entitled ‘Pirate Radio’. It’s his first track since the release of his ARIA Awardwinning second studio album Struggler, and sees him collaborating with former Evermore drummer and acclaimed producer Dann Hume – who co-wrote the song and played all the instruments. Check out the new rave-inspired single below.

Owusu did not hold back when giving his press statement on the song’s meaning and intentions. “The rich are getting richer, and us regulars are eating each other alive,” he said. “Smoke-screened by paranoia-inducing culture wars and our own growing poverty. ‘There is no war in Ba Sing Se’ type shit. Someone’s gotta sound the alarm and break the hypnosis – and that someone isn’t going to be the guy saying immigrants are eating your cats and they probably won’t have a billion dollars in their bank account either. If Elon Musk has no more haters, then I’m dead.”

Genesis Owusu – ‘Pirate Radio’

The new track arrives a week before Owusu embarks on a run of intimate shows in Sydney and Melbourne to test out new material from his as-yet-unannounced third studio album. Redstar Wu’s Neighbourhood Jams will take place inside the Studio of the Sydney Opera House from Thursday, September 18th to Saturday, September 20th, as well as The Night Cat in Melbourne from Wednesday, September 24th to Friday, September 26th. Several shows have already sold out.

xmunashe – who works with frequent Genesis Owusu collaborator Jonti – will play an improvised set of music as the opening act for the evening on the first night of each residency. Fred again.. faves Shady Nasty will then take over as support for the second and third nights in both cities. All remaining tickets for Redstar Wu’s Neighbourhood Jams can be found on GenesisOwusu.com.

Music Feeds’ Love Letter To A Record series asks artists to reflect on their relationship with the music they love and share stories about how it has influenced their lives. Here, Loki Liddle – a Jabirr Jabirr man who fronts Gold Coast rock band Selve – has written a deeply personal ode to My Boy, the third studio album by beloved New Zealand singer and songwriter Marlon Williams.

The letter arrives on release day for Selve’s debut album, Breaking Into Heaven. The album was recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London – making Liddle and co. the first Indigenous artists to record a full album there. In a statement, Liddle described the process of making the album as “a big, profound, emotional journey that has taken myself and the band to places and into spaces we never imagined we’d get to tread”. I am really really proud of the album we’ve created, the music, the stories, the messages, the whole wild dream of it,” he said. “We poured all of ourselves into every song and I hope that people listening can find something they connect with among the embers.”

Breaking Into Heaven can be streamed below, with Liddle’s letter following after that and the band’s upcoming tour dates – most of which are free to attend – listed at the bottom.

Selve – Breaking Into Heaven

There are so many records that I could write a love letter to. Libraries and halls and winding mazes of records, spilling out all over time that deserve a heartfelt thankyou and nod. This record I’ve chosen is a surprising one even to me, as there are maybe more classic records that have played a formative role in my teenage years, sparking my desire to be a musician in the first place.

But few artists have played such a significant role in my actual life as Marlon Williams – and this record in particular, My Boy, happened to come into my life at a time when I really needed it, and became somewhat of a spiritual companion during one of the trickier chapters in my life. And that really is what a great record does, right? There are star-crossed lovers, and there are star-crossed records that are destined to play a significant role in a person’s story.

I fell in love with Marlon’s first album back when I was 19 – and, in fact, met my partner of nine years at a Marlon Williams concert, in the very small Soundlounge of the Currumbin RSL on the Gold Coast back when he was still kicking off. Thanks for teeing that one up, Marlon. He kind of has had a cupid role, even in my love life, that has embedded his music as cannon in anniversaries and part of the lore of my relationship with my partner.

While his second album Make Way For Love carved a deep crevice in my heart, My Boy was the one that filled it up with balm. There is a friendly joviality that oozes through this record. The sense of the full-blown becoming and individuation of a deep-feeling man, who has given up any pretense or expectation and has decided to just be his authentic self in its full bloom and maturation. At the time this record came out, that was something that was really healing for me to hear and absorb.

The album is playful and curious, but also extremely insightful. I think it showcases that you can be silly and profound at the same time. Whipping out fun, high-spirited bangers like ‘My Boy’ and ‘Don’t Go Back’, the soothing tropical waves of ‘Easy Does it’, the surprisingly 80s drum machine romances ‘River Rival’ and ‘Thinking of Nina’ and profound soul-punchers like ‘Soft Boys Make The Grade’ and ‘My Heart The Wormhole’, then mixing it all up into one cohesive album, was something that hit home for me. Not to mention daring to brave a sombre Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb cover!

I used to drive from the Gold Coast to Brisbane for work everyday, and there must have been a six month period where I put it on every morning to soothe my nerves and exhaustion, and feel a bit of earnest love from another First Nations musician from across the seas. The language of music is unexplainable – and without going too much into the details of my own life, this album was medicinal to me. It was a friendly shoulder when I needed it, not to mention an inspiration creatively. Marlon’s integration of his traditional language into his music was certainly something I aspired to achieve, too. I’m not exactly sure why, but these are some of my favourite lyrics ever, from ‘Easy Does It’:

Ngã mihi to your friends when they stop calling
Musta missed you one too many times
But it’s on them to get what they need from you
It’s not on you to hold the line
That’s how easy does it
And she does it every time
Easy does it
Yeah, she does it every time
You are an expert in the field of distance
But I bet that I know where you are
You’re on some lonely undiscovered island
My seldom South Pacific star

They just fit right, and I know exactly what he means. It’s a warm hand, connecting you back to the centre. It goes without saying that I loved his following album, Te Whare Tīwekaweka, where he stepped into the power of his culture, language and songs completely. In fact, to return to the love story, I surprised my partner for our nine-year anniversary by getting us flights to New Zealand to see Marlon perform this album in his home town of Christchurch – a wild, beautiful full-circle moment.

Thank you, Marlon, for creating this beautiful record. For your dedication to your craft, your taste, your emotion and the spiritual power of song. I am forever grateful for the gift of your music.

Amy Shark has announced that she will once again embark on her solo acoustic tour, dubbed Songs & Stories, to see out the remainder of 2025. The second leg of the tour will kick off next month in Wangaratta, out in northeast Victoria, and will conclude days before Christmas in Horsham in the state’s west – taking her through New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia in the process.

“Ever since the tour wrapped [in March], there’s been high demand for it to happen again,” said Shark in a statement. “What I’ve decided to do is extend the tour with another 26 shows in different places around the country. I’ve updated the setlist, so it’s going to be different songs – and different stories. This isn’t going to happen again for a really long time, so don’t mess around if you wanna come.”

Amy Shark – ‘Only Wanna Be With You’

Shark originally undertook the Songs & Stories tour across the first quarter of 2025, kicking off in Kalgoorlie WA in mid-January and wrapping in early March with a show in Caloundra QLD. It followed on from her third studio album Sunday Sadness, which was released in August of 2024 and debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart – creating a hat trick in the process, as both her 2018 debut album Love Monster and its 2021 follow-up Cry Forever achieved the same feat.

Ahead of the tour resuming, Shark will play two one-off Songs & Stories shows in Sydney and Brisbane, as part of Night At The Barracks and its sister series Night At The Parkland respectively. Shark will play Brisbane’s Roma Street Parkland tonight (September 11th) before heading to Manly’s North Head Barracks on Sunday, September 21st. Both shows are with special guest Chloe Parché.

Speed have announced a new EP, entitled All My Angels, which is set for release on Friday, October 23rd via Last Ride and Flatspot Records. The ARIA Award-winning Sydney hardcore band have shared the single from this three-track effort, entitled ‘Peace’ – which, like all of the songs on the release, was written about the experience of losing their three close longtime friends – Alex Arthur, Tahmid “Ladstreet” Nurullah and Chang-Wook “Aje” Yeo – within the space of 18 months, and the impact of that loss on their mission statement as a band.

“Amidst this devastation, I was overcome with a deep sense of clarity and peace,” said Jem Siow – the band’s lead vocalist and flautist – in a press statement. “Despite the abyss of questions of why and how, my clearest sense of calm lay in the certainty that the time we shared and invested in one another was underpinned by unfiltered honesty and unconditional love.

“Their lives were short, but I know our experiences together were lived with deep, meaningful intention – which has, in turn, empowered us with more meaning and purpose while we are still here. This sense of calm and focus exists like a sharpened, refined weapon at my disposal – poised to attack life and its many hurdles with precision and intention – and it has only been refined through the process of loss.” The video for ‘Peace’, directed by Thomas Elliott, can be viewed below.

Speed – ‘Peace’

All My Angels, like all of Speed’s releases thus far, was recorded with producer Elliot Gallart – a childhood friend of Siow’s – at Sydney’s Chameleon Studios. It is the band’s third EP, following on from their debut release 2020 Flex and 2022’s Gang Called Speed, and is the follow-up to the band’s debut studio album Only One Mode, which was released in July 2024. The album debuted at number 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and later won an ARIA for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Release.

The band have toured Australia twice in 2025 – one a regional run, the other a metropolitan tour with Thai hardcore band Whispers and Newcastle band Feel The Pain. The band’s sole remaining Australian show comes in December, where they will head to Tweed Heads and the Central Coast to perform at Rolling Sets festival alongside Hilltop Hoods, Spacey Jane, Parcels, Scowl and more.

The All My Angels EP can be pre-ordered physically on vinyl and CD by clicking here.

Cosmic Psychos have announced their 12th studio album, I Really Like Beer, and a massive Australian tour to go with it. The follow-up to 2021’s Mountain Of Piss is slated for release on Friday, November 7th – which, coincidentally, is the same date the pub-rock band’s 41-date Australian tour kicks off in Frankston. The full list of tour dates, and more info on the album, can be found below.

To launch the album, the band have shared a music video for its opening number and lead single ‘I Like Beer’. Directed by Anthony Hayes, the clip depicts the band – vocalist/bassist Ross Knight and guitarist John “Mad Macka” McKeering – showering with cans of beer, having some with their breakfast of dim sims and cigarettes, and enjoying some more as the sun goes down. Watch below.

Cosmic Psychos – ‘I Like Beer’

I Really Like Beer was recorded with producer Paul Maybury – who has previously made albums with bands like King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Cable Ties, Rocket Science and Bench Press. It is the band’s first to be recorded as a duo, with former drummer Dean Muller – who was with the band since 2005 – seemingly out of the picture indefinitely due to a shoulder surgery. He is not in the band’s new press photos, and has not been mentioned since his October 2024 departure. Dune Rats‘ BC Michaels has been filling in on drums, although it’s not known if he played on I Really Like Beer.

The band’s exhaustive I Really Like Beer tour will take place across two legs. The first runs through the entire month of November 2025, with Mudhoney drummer Dan Peters playing with Knight and McKeering due to Michaels’ commitments with Dune Rats. Michaels will return to the drum throne in January and February 2026, where the tour resumes on New Year’s Day. Bellarine Peninsula duo Good Sniff will serve as main support on the entire run. “We made a record about beer, so now we’re going to play it in as many pubs as possible,” said Knight in a press statement. “Simple.”

Fit For An Autopsy have announced an Australian tour, which is set for mid-to-late January in 2026. The American extreme metal sextet were last here in 2023, supporting Perth metalcore band Make Them Suffer on their Neverbloom anniversary tour. They will be joined on all dates by Floridian metal band Bodysnatcher, who themselves are returning less than a year after their last run of dates supporting Lorna Shore alongside To The Grave back in February. All tour information is below.

The tour’s line-up will be completed by Newcastle band Volatile Ways and Melbourne band Pain Body. The former released their debut studio album, Perfect Dark, back in February. The latter, meanwhile, are a newly-formed supergroup featuring members of Thy Art Is Murder and Body Prison; the Fit For An Autopsy tour will be their first as a band, with only one single released so far.

Fit For An Autopsy – ‘It Comes For You’

The tour is now part of a busy few weeks to kick off 2026 for guitarist Will Putney, the band’s founding member and producer, who also plays guitar in the supergroup Better Lovers alongside former Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato and three-fifths of the final line-up of Every Time I Die – guitarist Jordan Buckley, bassist Steve Micciche and drummer Clayton Holyoak.

The last two dates of Autopsy’s tour overlap with the first two dates of Better Lovers’ debut tour of the country; the former will be playing in Adelaide and Perth the same nights that the latter are playing in Brisbane and Newcastle. At the time of writing, it has not been confirmed whether Putney will be leaving the Autopsy tour early or joining the Better Lovers tour late. It is worth noting, however, that Fit For An Autopsy are already a three-guitar band, whilst Better Lovers sport two.

Fit For An Autopsy & Bodysnatcher 2026 Tour

  • Thursday, January 15th – The Triffid, Brisbane QLD
  • Friday, January 16th – King Street Bandroom, Newcastle NSW
  • Saturday, January 17th – Liberty Hall, Sydney NSW
  • Sunday, January 18th – The Baso, Canberra ACT
  • Thursday, January 22nd – Max Watt’s, Melbourne VIC
  • Friday, January 23rd – Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide SA
  • Saturday, January 24th – Perth HPC, Perth WA*

* – Froth & Fury Festival; Volatile Ways and Pain Body not appearing

Tickets for all show are on sale now via Human Warfare.

Georgia Mulligan has released her second studio album, Unheaven. The follow-up to 2023’s Nothing Wrong was produced by longtime friend and musical collaborator Blain Cuneen, and is described by the Sydney singer-songwriter as an album of “continuing”. “With the encouragement of my heroes, I carved out some time for the shapes of the songs to appear out of the depths, sat by the water’s edge and played a few up to the surface,” she said in a press statement.

“Some didn’t flow so easily; they needed trimming, or hacking, and suturing back together. I wanted so much, and at the same time I wanted out. Looking back, the only one of those wants that was useful was that I wanted the next thing. I’ve always been looking ahead, from the moment I started doing this ‘songwriting and singing in public’ thing.” You can stream Unheaven below, with Mulligan’s track-by-track breakdown of her new album – exclusively for Music Feeds – below that.

Georgia Mulligan – Unheaven

1. ‘Note’

I had been playing around with open tunings, and this can make a lot of simple things feel new again. Same with the words; I didn’t analyse them too much, I just let them arrive. Some stuff had happened that I needed to process rather than archive, as I would have done in the past.

I wanted the song to have this driving feeling, and when I took the demo to pre-production with Blain and then to the band, it grew into something that felt natural: a big jangly rock ballad with weaving guitars and stacks of layered vocals.

It’s a cathartic and weirdly joyful song to sing, but it contains a lot of things that I haven’t ever known how to talk about very well – so it feels very vulnerable. To reconnect to parts of yourself you had buried is an often messy and sometimes beautiful process.

2. ‘Unheaven’

I wrote this after a period of feeling helpless. At some point, I realised that we are not actually ‘supposed’ to be in control – and it’s okay. Sometimes you can let go, and let the air hold you. I was thinking about how an aeroplane stays up, and how that’s so crazy. If you get scared, like I do, the only way to get through the fear is to let go – and let the air hold you.

3. ‘Split’

Once I had the bones of the song, Blain and I both felt like a John Parish-style approach felt right to support the strangeness of it. We experimented with drum loops and synth bass. Blain tried out this slightly theatrical upright piano part, and we just had fun pulling together an arrangement that became the basis for what we took to the band. Clay [Allen, drums] and Maia [Jelavic, guitar] took this skeleton and brought their feel to it. We broke it down and built it back up, over and over, so the making of the recorded version became like the processes and cycles that sparked the song itself.

4. ‘Care’

‘Care’ feels like a simple song about complex emotions. This one is sort of about feeling guilty for needing what we need, and feeling like a burden just for having one. Really, though, we all need so much care – not just some, all of us. Just as much as you need it, you have endless reserves to give.

5. ‘New’

When we recorded this one at Golden Retriever we played all together; it was called a ‘practice take’. Simon [Berckelman, engineer] put it down on the tape. It wasn’t perfect, so I wanted to try it over and over, but a spirit had entered the machine that first time. Guess which take ended up on the record.

6. ‘Tide’

You go to the beach if you can, and let the crashing waves, the salt, the pressure and the unbearable sound make you new.

7. ‘Pool Of Reflection’

This one is shaped like a cone in structure. It starts little and quiet, but it keeps asking and keeps pulling at the thread, until it unravels into a big billowing cloud. It’s full of regret and acceptance in equal measure. It asks: Why should we get what we want, just because we want it now?

8. ‘The Floor Of The Enmore’

It was 2022. The rain wouldn’t stop, and floors were collapsing, and my life felt like it was built of rotting wooden slats about to do the same. In 2024, this song came back from the beyond with Blain and the band. It was painful, and I almost scrapped it multiple times during the recording process, but I think it turned out well. We recorded the main vocals as two separate tracks, line by line, that weave and speak to each other in the mix. The outro is my favourite part, when the words stop and it’s time to rock.

9. ‘Aura’

When everything is getting super overwhelming and fuzzy and loud in your head, and then you remember all at once that there is just a little kid in there, you probably need to give yourself a hug and have a nap. Listen out for Maia’s shred-lording on the distorted guitars on this one.

Unheaven is out now via Double Drummer. Georgia will launch the album with a show at The Vanguard in Sydney on Friday, October 3rd; tickets are on sale now via Moshtix.com.au.

DZ Deathrays have announced their seventh studio album, Easing Out Of Control. The new LP is set for release on Friday, January 16th, 2026 via the band’s own imprint, DZ Worldwide. As part of the album’s announcement rollout, the Brisbane-born alternative rock trio have announced a six-date Australian tour and shared a new single entitled ‘Real Love’. Details of both can be found below.

‘Real Love’ is the fourth single to be lifted from Easing Out Of Control, with the three previous being released prior to the album’s official announcement: ‘First Night Fever’ in October 2025, ‘Like No Other’ in February and ‘Sideways’ this past June. In a press statement, lead vocalist and guitarist Shane Parsons described ‘Real Love’ as “a challenge” due to its significant musical departure from the band’s usual rock-oriented sound. “I wanted it to feel heartfelt, but still off-the-cuff and casual — like it just spilled out,” said Parson. “It’s definitely a different moment for us, but I think it opens the door for our sound to go anywhere.” A music video has also been shared, directed by Rhys Bennett.

Easing Out Of Control was recorded with producer Nathan Sheehy, as well as with touring bassist Luke Henery – formerly of Violent Soho, and a bandmate of drummer Simon Ridley in side project Total Pace. The album was then completed with tracking at the band’s home studios, with the band split between Sydney (Parsons and guitarist Lachlan Ewbank) and Brisbane (Ridley and Henery).

The band’s last studio album, R.I.F.F. (“remember, it’s for fun”) was released in June of 2023. It debuted at number eight on the ARIA Albums Chart, marking their third album to reach the top ten overall. The album was flanked by the singles ‘King B’, ‘Paranoid’ and ‘Tuff Luck’. It was nominated for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at that year’s ARIAs, but ultimately lost to Parkway Drive.

The Belair Lip Bombs have lifted a second single from their forthcoming debut studio album Again, entitled ‘Don’t Let Them Tell You (It’s Fair)’. The song has been part of the band’s live repertoire for just over a year, having originally been performed on 2024’s Jerry Can And A Van tour, and follows on from the release of the album’s lead single ‘Hey You’ last month.

In a press statement, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Maisie Everett revealed that she began writing the song inspired by Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, using his unique five-string open guitar tuning that loses the high E string and plays a G major chord when strummed openly. Later inspiration came from a conversation with fellow Melbourne musician Alex Lahey, not long after Everett had left her post as bassist for Clamm in order to focus on the Lip Bombs full time.

“I had a really inspiring conversation with her that day,” said Everett. “We talked about all things music – [especially] the different challenges that she’d had to overcome in her musical career. I remember her saying to me, ‘you have to make your own luck’. I don’t know why, but it really stuck with me. You have to believe in yourself and you have to always work hard, but the hard work only works if you believe in yourself at the same time.” An accompanying music video has also been shared for the single, which was co-directed by Everett with Angus Fielder; it can be viewed below.

Again is set for release on Friday, October 31st via Third Man Records – marking their first release on the Jack White-founded label, not to mention the first Australian release on the label overall. It follows on from the Melbourne alternative rock band touring nationally as main support for King Stingray earlier this year, alongside Beddy Rays, as well as the band’s current international jaunt through North America as main support for Perth pop-rockers Spacey Jane. A European headlining tour comes next in the lead up to Again‘s release, with a homecoming national tour to be announced.

Hatchie has officially shared details of her third studio album, Liquourice. The follow-up to 2022’s Giving The World Away will arrive on Friday, November 7th via Secretly Canadian – marking her first album exclusively for the label since signing a worldwide deal with them. To coincide with the album’s announcement, the project of Brisbane-born and now Melbourne-based dream pop artist Harriette Pilbeam has shared its first music in three years: The album’s lead single, ‘Lose It Again’.

The song was co-written by Pilbeam with musician and songwriter Jenny McLennan, who makes music under the moniker of Orchin. The song was premiered live earlier in the week during Hatchie’s live set as part of this year’s Bigsound, which saw her and her band play at the Prince Consort Hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. Its accompanying music video was directed by Pilbeam’s husband, Joe Agius – who performs his own music as Rinse and plays lead guitar in the Hatchie live band. The clip depicts Pilbeam performing the song in a variety of remote, abstract locations.

Hatchie – ‘Lose It Again’

Liquourice was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Melina Duterte – better known by her musical stage name of Jay Som. Pilbeam sang and played all the instruments on the album herself, save for drums – which were handled by Warpaint‘s Stella Mozgawa. In a press statement, Pilbeam explained that the album was creatively inspired by “living a very simple life, and having time to reconnect with myself and be alone with my thoughts”.

“This album feels like the culmination of everything I’ve wanted to do with this project since I first started it,” she said. “I focused on the finer details of the trajectory of love found and lost, inspired by my favourite tragic romance films. I’ve never felt more aligned with an album, and can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.”

Liquourice can be pre-saved digitally and pre-ordered physically by clicking here.

Fanny Lumsden has shared her first new original music in over two years – a stand-alone single entitled ‘Look At Me Now’. The track was premiered live on the Tooma singer-songwriter’s recent run of shows opening for Paul Kelly alongside Lucinda Williams and her band, which wraps up tomorrow night (September 7th) in Melbourne. It was co-produced by Lumsden with longtime collaborator Matt Fell and husband Dan Freeman, who also plays bass in Lumsden’s backing band.

In a press statement, Lumsden explained that ‘Look At Me Now’ was “a love letter to [her] younger self”. “The amount of no’s I experienced in this industry is wild, and every single one I am grateful for – because they made me the person and artist I am today,” she said. “Not the wins, but all the losses, the struggles and the hard moments. I think it’s also a reminder that success can be an illusion – and, really, you can find success in every step along the way. It’s a cliche, but I’m feeling reflective and grateful that I can still be driving the van, self-managed, doing my own makeup in the rearview mirror, and yet doing the biggest shows of my career all at the same time.”

Fanny Lumsden – ‘Look At Me Now’

‘Look At Me Now’ was recorded piecemeal over the course of Lumsden’s European tour, with contributions from all of her touring band The Prawn Stars: Freeman, multi-instrumentalist Paddy Montgomery, Lumsden’s backing vocalist brother Tom, guitarist Travis New, drummer Riley McPherson and keyboardist Gary Day. “I wanted this song to feel real, hopeful and authentic to my live band, who do all the miles with me and load the van and see the lows as well as the highs,” said Lumsden. “Recording it was a crazy process of fitting in recording sessions whilst on the road, so we are very grateful to Matt for wielding his magic and helping us make it happen.”

The release of ‘Look At Me Now’ is Lumsden’s second single of 2025, following on from the release of her cover of Gotye‘s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ back in June. These releases marked the first since Lumsden put out her fourth studio album Hey Dawn, which was released in August 2023. The album won the ARIA Award for Best Country Album at that year’s ceremony, while in January 2024 the album won Alt Country Album Of The Year at the Country Music Awards of Australia.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre have announced their intentions to tour Australia in March 2026 – just under three years after their last attempt to do so ended in disaster. They will play theatres in most capital cities, with Swedish band Les Big Byrd also announced as main support for all shows – making their Australian debut in the process. The full list of tour dates can be found below.

BJM – fronted by sole original member Anton Newcombe – returned to the stage in January 2025, marking their first time playing live since a now-infamous show at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne circa November 21st, 2023. The show was cut short after bandleader Anton Newcombe and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt ended up in a fistfight.

Fan footage from the gig shows Newcombe and Van Kriedt arguing following ‘Forgotten Graves’ – the sixth song of the evening. Van Kriedt ultimately walked off, but not before giving Newcombe the finger as he went past. The frontman, in turn, pie-faced the guitarist and the two chased each other across the stage. They tackled one another into touring guitarist/percussionist Shea Roberts, who fell backwards into Emil Nikolaisen’s keyboard and knocked it over. The curtain then came up.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre – ‘When Jokers Attack’

The day after the show, the band cancelled the remaining dates of their tour – which had already been struggling prior to the incident. This included the band’s percussionist Joel Gion walking off stage during their Hobart show, “half the band” reportedly walked off during the Perth show and both Newcombe and Van Kriedt leaving the stage at different points of their Canberra show.

The band’s disastrous 2023 tour followed a controversy-ridden 2018 visit. During a show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, Newcombe made some unsavoury comments regarding rape during an unprompted tirade against Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and an audience member. Newcombe later responded on Twitter, writing: “Fuck you all and your fascist PC trap and trial by internet.”

The Brian Jonestown Massacre have not released any new material since 2023’s The Future Is Your Past. Gion, however, has since published a memoir entitled In The Jingle Jangle Jungle: Keeping Time With The Brian Jonestown Massacre, which documents his original run with the group from 1994 to 1999. He later rejoined in 2004, and has remained in the group on and off since then.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre 2026 Tour

  • Thursday, March 19th – Enmore Theatre, Sydney NSW
  • Friday, March 20th – King Street Bandroom, Newcastle NSW
  • Saturday, March 21st – The Tivoli, Brisbane QLD
  • Sunday, March 22nd – The Gov, Adelaide SA
  • Thursday, March 26th – Odeon Theatre, Hobart TAS
  • Friday, March 27th – Northcote Theatre, Melbourne VIC
  • Sunday, March 29th – Theatre Royal, Castlemaine VIC
  • Tuesday, March 31st – Magnet House, Perth WA

A pre-sale for the tour is currently live. General sale will follow on Thursday, September 4th at 11am AEST/9am AWST/10:30am ACST. Both can be accessed via tour promoter David Roy Williams.

Civic are about to return to the road here in their native Australia, playing a run of headlining shows around the place in support of their excellent third album Chrome Dipped. They’ll be joined by artsy Adelaide sextet Coldwave as support for all shows, as well as an exciting and ecclectic mix of local acts on each bill. Ahead of the tour, the band’s lead guitarist and co-founder Lewis Hodgson shared his five favourite gigs from across Civic’s career thus far, exclusively for Music Feeds.

Civic – ‘Chrome Dipped’

While I sit here thinking of what our top five shows are, I’m reminded of how long we’ve been going. All the hundreds of shows and venues, plus thousands of people that have come to our shows – good and bad. I’m grateful for such a bizarre experience. Some of the worst shows are the best stories, or are at least the most memorable. That said, I will keep it light here – because really, we’ve not played too many bad gigs. Playing Manchester Psych Fest to literally one person in a giant pink room was definitely strange, but I wouldn’t even say that was “bad”.

1. Vera Festival, Groningen NLD, 9/9/23

Playing Vera is always a treat. Its like this oasis in the middle of a desert of touring. They really like to accommodate you: Beds, food, clothes washing facilities and beer. Everyone is super friendly, and it’s community run too. The locals keep this venue running through the sheer love of it. The history of this place is impressive, to say the least. Basically any sick band I can think of has played here. We’re talking Joy Division, the Sex Pistols, The Gun Club, The Cramps, Dead Moon (25 times, I was told) and Nirvana – to about 80 people, as the legend goes. The well-documented history of this place is overwhelming. We had played there twice before in the basement, which is a late night chaotic dungeon affair. That was very fun. However, this was the first time we played the main room. It sounded great and we packed it out – which is a crazy feeling.

2. The Night Cat, Fitzroy AUS, 17/5/18

This was our launch for our first EP, New Vietnam. This was ambitious for us, as we had only been a band for just under a year and it’s a 500-cap room roughly. We stacked the line up with friends like Tyranamen, Sweet Whirl and Vanilla Poppers. We pasted up giant posters of the the EP artwork on the front of The Night Cat, which was up for months before the gig. I believe you have to pay for that spot now, but back then it was free. We didn’t use Instagram or Facebook, but we managed to sell it out the old-fashioned way – with posters, hype and local radio.

3. Nice Day To Go To The Club @ Port Noarlunga Football Club, Port Noarlunga South AUS, 22/2/25

This one just went off. For those who don’t know, it’s a football field converted into a two-stage music festival. Perfect day. We had friends like These New South Whales, Clamm, Drunk Mums and Antenna, there so it was all on from the start. Fitzy [AKA radio presenter and media personality Ryan Fitzgerald] puts it on annually – and, as it turns out, he’s now also a friend. Good set, good crowd and beers on tap in the “artist area” – which was the footy club’s locker room. I got to meet Tumbleweed, and I absolutely talked [guitarist] Lenny Curley’s ear off. He was pretty good natured about it.

4. Gonerfest 20, Memphis USA, 28/8/23

This was my first time playing Gonerfest with Civic, and it was our first show of our first US tour. It was at a new venue – for me, anyway – rather then spread throughout different Memphis venues and locations. I did miss the old set-up, but we still had such a sick time. The line-up was stacked. Osees, Mummies, Gories, Chubby and the Gang and Poison Ruin, plus Australian friends like 1-800-MIKEY, TV Repairmann, Vintage Crop, Lothario and C.O.F.F.I.N. Really good way to start a tour.

5. Binic Folks Blues Festival, Binic FRA, 26/6/25

This was the most recent gig we’ve played. It was the end of a very long tour, so it maybe holds a bit more weight because of that reason. It was a really good crowd; they reminded me of Big Day Out crowds with people crowdsurfing all the way back to the mixing desk in the tent. Great sound for a line check, too. It was located next to a beach, in the centre of a small French coastal town. Starting to realise a pattern in having a good show is having friends there, too. This time it was Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice, Party Dozen, Program, Kirin J Callinan and Hot Tubs Time Machine. We ate mussels with a side of French fries after our set, and I was happy the tour was done.

Civic Chrome Dipped 2025 Australian Tour

  • Thursday, September 4th – Mo’s Desert Clubhouse, Gold Coast QLD
  • Friday, September 5th – The Brightside, Brisbane QLD
  • Saturday, September 6th – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney NSW
  • Friday, September 12th – Ed Castle Hotel, Adelaide SA
  • Friday, October 10th – The Night Cat, Melbourne VIC

You Am I have been revealed as the inductee act for the ARIA Hall Of Fame this year. The veteran Australian rock band will head into the hall this November, as part of the ARIA Awards ceremony at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Wednesday, November 19th. The line-up being inducted is the band’s current one, which has remained unchanged for over 25 years: Founding member Tim Rogers on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Davey Lane on lead guitar and keyboards, Andy Kent on bass and Russell “Rusty” Hopkinson on drums.

“Australia has witnessed You Am I shape the course of modern rock music with their unmistakable sound, honed by live shows across the length and breadth of the country and beyond,” said Annabelle Herd – the CEO of ARIA – in a press statement announcing the induction. “With 10 ARIA Awards, multiple chart-topping albums, and a legacy that has inspired countless musicians, You Am I is one of the finest live acts this country has produced, fuelled in equal parts by the explosive musical chemistry between the band and Tim Rogers’ era-defining songwriting.”

You Am I – ‘Berlin Chair’

Herd went on to note that it was You Am I’s songbook that made them “a band for the ages”. “Tim Rogers’ ability to nail a universal feeling with a couple of seemingly throwaway lines, through that uniquely Australian lens, is one of the reasons that You Am I’s music [is] held so close to fans’ hearts,” she said. “We are thrilled to be welcoming one of Australia’s most influential and enduring bands into the ARIA Hall of Fame.”

“We are bemused, flattered and surprised to be asked to sit at the parents’ table,” said Rogers in his own statement. “The artists in the Hall have had musical adventures of grandeur and righteous acclaim. Our trail of desperation seems more haphazard and with less dazzle, yet we are giddy and
grateful to feel recognition from the music community. We’ll see you out there on the road of endless possibilities.”

You Am I’s induction follows on from Missy Higgins being inducted at the 2024 ARIA Awards ceremony. Both artists featured in the recent Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs, as hosted by triple j, with their respective signature songs ‘Berlin Chair’ and ‘Scar’ each getting voted in. Prior to Higgins, Jet were the most recent inductees into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, with their induction taking place at the 2023 ARIA Awards ceremony. The last decade has also seen artists such as Tina ArenaCrowded HouseDarryl BraithwaiteHuman Nature and the late Archie Roach also inducted.

The band have been actively touring throughout 2025, with their Hi-Fi Daily Double Down tour taking place earlier this year and their Hi-Fi Way 30th anniversary regional tour picks up again later this week. You can find all remaining tour dates, as well as ticketing info, for the latter by clicking here.

M.I.A. | Iwi Onodera/Redferns.

M.I.A. has announced two shows away from her upcoming appearance at Harvest Rock Festival in Adelaide this October. The Sri Lankan rapper and singer is set to perform at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne on Sunday, October 26th – the day after her slated appearance at Harvest Rock – before heading to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Wednesday, October 29th. Ticketing information is below.

The shows will mark her first in Australia since 2018, when she performed on the new-year’s festival circuit with sets at Lost Paradise and Origin Fields. They will also mark her first headlining shows in Australia for over a decade, having last done those back in 2013 while in the country for Summadayze Festival alongside The Chemical Brothers, Mark Ronson, Kimbra and Disclosure.

M.I.A. – ‘Bucky Done Gun’

Since M.I.A. was last in Australia, she has released her sixth studio album Mata. Released in October 2022, the album included the singles ‘The One’, ‘Popular’ and ‘Beep’. She has also released two new singles this year, entitled ‘Armour’ and ‘Safe’. The decade thus far, however, has seen much more media attention on her pivot into a conspiracy theorist. She has used her platform to express easily-disproven views on the impact of COVID-19 vaccines and, more infamously, 5G cellular network technology on both social media and on conservative talk shows such as The Alex Jones Show.

A pre-sale for M.I.A.’s headlining shows in Sydney and Melbourne will go live tomorrow on Monday, September 1st at 10am AEST. General sale will then follow on Tuesday, September 2nd at 12pm AEST. Both sales can be accessed via the tour’s official promoter, Secret Sounds, on their website.
