Alright Australia, dust off the boots and prepare your liver – Strummingbird is back for 2026, and it’s bringing one of the most unexpected (but kinda perfect?) headliners along for the ride: Post Malone.

Yep. Posty. At a modern Aussie country festival. And honestly? It makes a lot of sense.

Post Malone – ‘I Had Some Help’ (feat. Morgan Wallen)

After diving headfirst into his Nashville era with F-1 Trillion – a Grammy-nominated country project stacked with heavy hitters – Post Malone is officially saddling up for his return Down Under, leading a massive Strummingbird lineup set to roll through Ballarat, Newcastle and the Sunshine Coast this October. If his last Aussie visit is anything to go by, these shows are going to go off.

Joining him on the bill is one of country’s fastest-rising stars, Bailey Zimmerman, who’s been absolutely everywhere lately thanks to viral hits and a gritty, chart-dominating sound. Add in North Carolina’s rowdy crowd-pleaser Cooper Alan, the introspective brilliance of Cam, and a stacked mix of international names and homegrown faves, and you’ve got a lineup that goes far beyond your standard country fare.

From the DIY grit of viral hitters Dexter & The Moonrocks and the blissed-out vibes of Stella Lefty, to local heavy-hitters like Brad Cox and Sons of the East, Strummingbird is once again serving up a full-spectrum country experience – plus a few curveballs for good measure.

If you’re still wrapping your head around Post Malone topping the bill, it’s worth noting this isn’t just a novelty moment. His country pivot has seen him link up with the likes of Dolly Parton, Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton, while still carrying that unmistakable Posty DNA – and now he’s bringing that crossover chaos to a full-scale Aussie festival stage.

Beyond the music, Strummingbird is leaning all the way into the experience, with line dancing sessions returning across all stops (led by fan-fave Maddison Glover), plus camping options and travel packages for those keen to make a full weekend of it.

Presale tickets go live Wednesday May 13, with general tickets on sale Thursday May 14.

So yeah… if you’ve ever wanted to scream the lyrics to “Rockstar” while wearing cowboy boots surrounded by line dancers and country diehards, this might just be your moment.

Brissie, clear your calendars and cancel your plans (yes, all of them). Cult fave fest Against The Grain is officially back after an eight-year hiatus – and it’s not just a comeback, it’s a full-blown block party takeover.

Celebrating 10 years of local tastemaker powerhouse GRAIN, the one-day chaos engine will sprawl across multiple venues in Woolloongabba’s Clarence Corner precinct on Saturday 20 June 2026, packing 30+ artists across five stages into one gloriously curated mess of music, art and late-night antics.

“A real marker of where GRAIN has come from and where it’s heading.”

And the lineup? Filthy (complimentary). We’re talking avant-pop legends Stereolab making their first Brisbane appearance in 17 years, psych-rock juggernauts Pond dropping an Aussie-exclusive set, plus the long-awaited return of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Add in post-punk heavyweights Protomartyr, hometown hero Hatchie, and a stacked undercard featuring everyone from The Belair Lip Bombs to Public Figures, and you’ve got yourself a genre-hopping fever dream.

Beyond the bands, Against The Grain is levelling up into full sensory overload territory – with an open-air carpark dancefloor, immersive art installations, and a late-night afterparty at The Princess Theatre to keep the wheels spinning ‘til 2am. It’s all part of Brisbane’s Open Season takeover, but honestly? ATG feels like the main character energy.

“With Against The Grain, we’ve wanted to build something that feels true to the community that surrounds it, something independent, intentional and a little bit unpredictable,” GRAIN’s Chris Langenberg says in a press statement.

“To bring it back after eight years, and to do it at this scale with artists we’ve grown alongside as well as those shaping what comes next, feels like a real marker of where GRAIN has come from and where it’s heading.”

Tickets are on sale now – and if history’s anything to go by, this one’s gonna get weird (in the best way).

Bluesfest 2026 Officially Cancelled As Festival Enters Liquidation https://musicfeeds.com.au/news/bluesfest-2026-officially-cancelled-as-festival-enters-liquidation/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 02:48:49 +0000 https://musicfeeds.com.au/?p=574173 Here’s what it means for fans & ticket holders

Australia’s festival scene has suffered another major blow, with Byron Bay Bluesfest officially confirming it will not proceed in 2026 – and revealing that a liquidator has now been appointed to handle the festival’s financial affairs.

After earlier reports suggested the event had been cancelled due to slow ticket sales, organisers have now released an official statement confirming that the 36-year-old festival will not go ahead next month, citing the increasingly difficult operating environment for large-scale live music events.

The move raises major questions about the future of one of Australia’s longest-running festivals – and what happens next for ticket holders, staff, suppliers and artists.

Below is everything we know so far.

The Official Bluesfest Statement

Bluesfest organisers just released the following statement confirming the cancellation and appointment of a liquidator:

“After 36 years as Australia’s most awarded music festival, Byron Bay Bluesfest has made the difficult decision not to proceed with the 2026 event. We are deeply saddened by this outcome and the impact it will have on our artists, staff, partners, vendors and the many loyal Bluesfest fans who have been part of the festival’s journey for more than three decades.

For more than three decades, Bluesfest has been a cornerstone of Australia’s live music calendar and a major contributor to the regional visitor economy. In 2025, the festival generated approximately $65 million in indirect tourism spending for Byron Bay, $130 million across the Northern Rivers region, and around $230 million in economic activity across New South Wales.

This decision follows extensive consideration of the current operating environment for major live music events. Rising production, logistics, insurance and touring costs, combined with softer ticket demand and international uncertainties, have made it impossible to proceed with the festival in 2026.

A liquidator has been appointed to manage all financial matters for Bluesfest Byron Bay, including vendor and partner obligations.

Ticket holders, including parking pass customers and campers, will be contacted directly by the appointed liquidator with further information regarding the process for submitting claims and any potential refund arrangements.”

What This Means For Bluesfest

The appointment of a liquidator suggests that the company behind Bluesfest has entered a formal financial winding-up process.

In practical terms, this usually means the company running the festival can no longer meet its financial obligations, and an independent liquidator has been brought in to assess debts, manage claims and potentially sell remaining assets.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the Bluesfest brand itself disappears forever, but it does mean the current business entity running the festival is now being wound down. In the festival world, liquidation doesn’t always spell the end of the road for a brand either – events like Soundwave and Future Music Festival have resurfaced in different forms after financial collapses, often returning years later under new promoters or ownership.

Bluesfest has been a pillar of the Australian festival circuit since launching in 1990, eventually growing into one of the country’s most internationally respected music events.

Over its lifetime the festival hosted a staggering list of global acts – from Bob Dylan, Kendrick Lamar and Grace Jones to John Mayer, BB King and Paul Simon – alongside generations of Australian artists.

The 2026 edition had been shaping up to be another major event, with a lineup featuring Parkway Drive, Erykah Badu, Earth Wind & Fire, Sublime, The Black Crowes, The Wailers, Counting Crows, Buddy Guy and Split Enz, among many others.

What This Means For Ticket Holders

The biggest immediate question for fans is whether they’ll receive refunds.

Because a liquidator has been appointed, refunds will not be handled directly by Bluesfest organisers.

Instead, ticket holders will need to submit claims through the liquidator, who will review all outstanding debts and obligations.

In insolvency situations like this, ticket buyers are typically treated as unsecured creditors, meaning refunds may depend on how much money remains after higher-priority debts – such as employee wages and secured loans – are addressed.

However, some fans may still be able to recover money through other avenues depending on how tickets were purchased, including credit card chargebacks, ticketing platform protections, or ticket insurance policies.

Ticket holders are expected to receive direct communication from the liquidator with instructions on how to lodge refund claims.

Another Blow To Australia’s Festival Scene

Bluesfest’s cancellation is the latest sign of the mounting pressures facing Australia’s live music festival sector.

In recent years, rising insurance costs, escalating artist fees, supply chain disruptions, and shifting audience habits have placed enormous strain on major events.

A growing list of Australian festivals – including Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival and Groovin The Moo – have either paused, cancelled or scaled back operations amid the challenging economic climate.

Bluesfest headliners Parkway drive were also recently forced to axe the debut of their regional-travelling Park Waves Festival.

Meanwhile, punters are also feeling the sting, with a recent study finding that the average Aussie festival ticket price has exploded by 180% since 2004 – and is continuing to rise at double the rate of inflation.

For now, the future of Bluesfest remains uncertain – but the cancellation of its 2026 edition marks a sobering moment for one of the country’s most beloved music institutions.

Further updates – including info regarding refunds and the liquidation process – are expected in the coming days.

Australia’s festival landscape has taken another heavy hit, with Bluesfest Byron Bay reportedly cancelled just weeks before its planned 2026 return.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the long-running Easter festival – scheduled for April 2nd–5th at Byron Events Farm – will not go ahead, with reports suggesting poor ticket sales forced organisers to pull the plug.

Tickets have also disappeared from the Bluesfest website, fuelling speculation that the cancellation is imminent, though organisers had not issued an official public statement at the time of writing.

According to The Music, contract staff have already been notified of the decision, with other stakeholders currently being informed behind the scenes.

The news is a gut punch for Australian live music fans and artists alike, particularly given the stacked lineup Bluesfest had assembled for 2026.

Headliners were set to include Parkway Drive, Erykah Badu, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sublime, Counting Crows, The Black Crowes, The Wailers and Buddy Guy, alongside a rare return from The Pogues, who were due to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their classic album Rum, Sodomy & The Lash and honour the legacy of the late Shane MacGowan.

Legendary New Zealand outfit Split Enz were also slated to appear as part of their major Australian comeback tour.

The cancellation comes amid a complicated few years for the Byron Bay institution.

Festival director Peter Noble previously announced that 2025 would mark Bluesfest’s final year, before later reversing course and confirming a 2026 edition – suggesting at the time that the “last festival” declaration had been something of a wake-up call.

“Do we have to say it’s the last Bluesfest to get people to focus on us?” Noble said in 2024.

Ironically, the 2025 edition proved one of the festival’s strongest in years, drawing 109,000 attendees across the Easter long weekend – the third-biggest crowd in Bluesfest history and its best result since before the pandemic.

But despite that momentum, it appears the 37th edition of the festival will now not proceed, highlighting the ongoing financial pressure facing Australia’s major music events.

Over the past few years, a growing list of beloved festivals – including Splendour In The Grass, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival and more – have struggled with rising costs, shifting touring cycles and a rapidly changing live music market.

While punters are also feeling the sting, with a recent study finding that the average Aussie festival ticket price has exploded by 180% since 2004 – and is continuing to rise at double the rate of inflation.

Bluesfest, first launched in 1990, has long been one of the country’s most iconic events, hosting global legends ranging from Bob Dylan and Kendrick Lamar to Grace Jones and John Mayer, alongside generations of Aussie artists.

If confirmed, the cancellation would mark another sobering chapter for Australia’s once-thriving festival circuit.

More info – including details regarding ticket refunds and official confirmation from organisers – is expected soon.

The Moo is back – and now we officially know who’s playing.

After confirming its long-awaited return last week, Groovin The Moo has unveiled the full lineup for its special one-off 2026 edition, set to take place in Lismore on Saturday, 9 May. And for a festival easing its way back into the paddock, it’s pulled together a seriously stacked bill.

Denzel Curry – ‘GOT ME GEEKED’

Leading the charge is US hip-hop shapeshifter Denzel Curry, who returns to Australia armed with one of the most intense live shows in the game, alongside Yolŋu rap powerhouse Baker Boy, stepping into a bold new era off the back of his sophomore album DJANDJAY.

Also heading to the Northern Rivers are Dope Lemon bringing their hazy late-night grooves, Matt Corby with that unmistakable voice and magnetic stage presence, and Central Coast producer Ninajirachi, fresh from a massive run of accolades for her debut album I Love My Computer. Global hitmaker Tones And I rounds out the upper tier of the bill, returning home after an extensive international touring streak.

Elsewhere on the lineup, Kath Ebbs will bring the wildly popular queer line-dancing party Cowboy Country to the paddock, while The Terrys, The Chats and Maple’s Pet Dinosaur deliver the rock chaos. Representing the local Northern Rivers scene are Lismore’s own The Colliflowers and 17-year-old Murwillumbah Indigenous singer-songwriter, Angel White.

There’s also a community focus baked right into the programming, with the Homegrown Hero competition giving local artists a shot at joining the lineup – keeping the festival firmly rooted in its regional DNA.

First launched in 2005, Groovin The Moo built its reputation by bringing major contemporary lineups directly to regional Australia – and that mission remains central to its carefully planned return. The 2026 Lismore event marks a scaled-down but deliberate reboot for the beloved touring festival, supported by the Great Southern Nights initiative, designed as the first step toward a sustainable long-term future after recent industry challenges forced its hiatus.

As with previous editions, the Lismore show will be all ages, inclusive and community-focused, with camping and shuttle transport options in the works. Fans can now register their interest via the official festival sign-up.

It feels very good to see the paddock filling up again. Details below.

After a couple of uncertain years and plenty of crossed fingers from the Moo Crew, Groovin The Moo is officially returning in 2026 – just in a different format.

The beloved regional touring festival will make its comeback with a one-off, single-day event in Lismore on Saturday 9 May, marking the first step in what organisers describe as a long-term rebuild for one of Australia’s most cherished live music institutions.

Groovin the Moo 2023 Weekend One After-Movie

First launched in 2005, GTM carved out a unique place in Aussie music culture by taking major lineups directly to regional communities – a model that helped shape generations of live music fans. But after the 2024 cancellation and no return in 2025, the future of the festival looked shaky. Now, it’s back, albeit deliberately smaller, more focused, and designed to grow sustainably from the ground up.

The 2026 edition will run from 11am to 10pm at Oakes Oval in Lismore (Widjabul/Wia-bal Country) as an all-ages, single-stage event. Organisers say starting with one show allows them to rebuild carefully while staying true to GTM’s regional heart.

“This is about bringing Groovin The Moo back in a way that honours what it has always stood for,” Fuzzy CEO Adelle Robinson said in a press statement. “The festival belongs to regional Australia.”

The comeback is being presented by Great Southern Nights, with support from the NSW Government, Destination NSW and ARIA – backing organisers say was essential to making the return possible.

Lismore was chosen not only for its strong creative identity but also to support a region that’s faced major challenges in recent years. The event is intended to deliver both a major cultural moment and a tangible boost for the local economy. GTM will also partner with Our Kids as official charity, donating $2 from every ticket sold to help families access local medical care.

The lineup and ticket details are still to come, but anticipation is already high – especially after the festival last ran in full touring form in 2023 before industry pressures forced a rethink.

For now, Groovin The Moo isn’t gone, it’s rebuilding. And regional Australia is, as always, front and centre.

Sydney metalheads, consider this your official pre-game. The spirit of Wacken Open Air – the biggest metal festival on Earth – is landing at Crowbar this April as part of a global 35th anniversary celebration connecting heavy scenes across the planet.

On April 18, 35 official Wacken Warm-Up shows will take place across 35 countries on the same day – from Europe and the UK to Asia, the Americas and right here in Australia. Sydney is hosting one of only a handful of Southern Hemisphere events, meaning local fans will be plugging directly into a worldwide metal celebration without needing to trek to Germany’s muddy meadows.

Wacken Open Air 2025 – Official Aftermovie

Leading the charge at Crowbar are co-headliners Our Last Enemy and Witchgrinder, joined by a stacked supporting lineup of Küntsquäd, Shatterface and Age of Emergence. Expect riffs, volume, sweat and a whole lot of international metal solidarity.

For 35 years, Wacken Open Air has been more than just a festival – it’s been a global gathering point where underground lifers and stadium-sized legends stand shoulder to shoulder. These Warm-Up shows are a reminder that even if you’re thousands of kilometres from the famous fields of northern Germany, you’re still part of the same worldwide metal community.

On April 18, borders drop, amps go up, and Sydney joins the global headbang. See you in the pit.

All aboard metalheads – the full lineup for Hellbound II has officially dropped anchor, and somehow it’s gone even harder than the already-infamous maiden voyage, stacking some of the hugest names in Aussie metal alongside a swathe of rising stars.

After the first Hellbound cruise sold out in under ten minutes (a record-breaking flex for Choose Your Cruise), the floating metal circus is returning for round two in January 2027, once again transforming the Carnival Splendour into a four-night monument to riffs, breakdowns and extremely questionable sleep schedules.

“This is one of the most exciting lineups we’ve ever put together across almost fifty themed cruises”

Headlining the chaos once again will be Byron Bay titans Parkway Drive, returning to reclaim the high seas following their blistering appearance on the inaugural cruise. They’ll be joined by an absolutely stacked top tier of Australian heavy royalty, with The Amity Affliction, GRAMMY-nominated wrecking crew Alpha Wolf, metalcore pioneers I Killed the Prom Queen, and deathcore heavyweights Thy Art Is Murder all locked in for the four-night voyage from January 17–21, 2027.

And that’s just the tip of the spike-covered iceberg. Also boarding are Banks Arcade (NZ), Closure, Dead City Ruins, Down and Out, Elm Street, Future Static, Gravemind, Heavensgate, Hei’An, Major Arcana, Mammal, Maple’s Pet Dinosaur, Mirrors, No Apologies, Ocean Grove, RedHook, Rocky’s Pride & Joy, Starve, plus Taking Back Saturday DJs, with MANOV stepping in as stage host and general agent of chaos.

Bands will play across multiple stages over all four nights, ensuring a constant buffet of heavy music from sunrise hangovers to late-night breakdowns. Alongside the live chaos, organisers have confirmed immersive events, themed nights and curated onboard activities designed specifically for metal fans who like their holidays loud.

“This is one of the most exciting lineups we’ve ever put together across almost fifty themed cruises,” said Choose Your Cruise CEO Marius Els. “We were stoked to invite Parkway Drive back on board after the blinding launch of the first Hellbound.”

For those needing a brief recovery window, Hellbound II will also feature a port call at Tangalooma, offering dolphin feeding, sand tobogganing and snorkelling shipwrecks (because nothing says balance like deathcore followed by island bliss?)

Tickets are on sale now and you can peep the full lineup and ticketing deets down below.

Crack open the notes app and start planning your adventures – the Party In The Paddock 2026 set times have officially landed.

With two weeks to go until Tasmania’s favourite four-day frolic takes over Quercus Park from February 5–9, PITP have dropped the full timetable via the Party In The Paddock app, meaning it’s finally time to start making some very serious decisions about clashes, recovery windows and how many steps you’re willing to do between stages.

And there’s a lot to plan.

Across five massive days, a ridiculous 180 artists will roll through six stages, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday absolutely stacked wall-to-wall with some of the biggest names in Aussie (and international) music.

The Big Headline Moments

If you’re building your weekend around the big mainstage moments, here’s your cheat sheet:

Meanwhile, stages like Vibestown, The Bigtop, The Bullpen, Silvertongue and Little Island Rising will be firing non-stop with live music, comedy, drag, interviews, chaos, healing, and whatever else PITP throws at you this year.

Don’t Sleep On Monday Morning

One last curveball for the true survivors: Monday morning isn’t just for packing tents and emotional goodbyes.

Four artists will take over the Little Island stage as a final, gentle dose of musical recovery – a soft landing after four days of dancing, hugging strangers and losing all sense of time.

Local Legends & Fresh Blood

This year also sees Tasmanian singer-songwriter Sam McMeekin step into the spotlight after taking out triple j Unearthed’s Party In The Paddock comp, locking in her spot on the bill off the back of her new EP Amelioration.

TL;DR:

  • Set times are live now via the PITP app
  • 180 artists / 6 stages / 5 days
  • Ocean Alley (Fri), Sofi Tukker (Sat), Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Sun)
  • Monday morning recovery sets

So yeah – download the app, grab the highlighters, argue with your mates and start plotting your paddock path. PITP 2026 is coming in hot.

Peep the full set times down below and see you by the river.

If you missed out on a cabin for the first instalment, you might wanna start stretching your clicking finger now – because Hellbound is officially cruising back onto the calendar.

Following the instant, under-ten-minute sell-out of its maiden voyage, Australia’s first dedicated heavy metal cruise has announced a second run, with Hellbound II locked in for 17–21 January 2027 aboard the Carnival Splendor.

“Full lineup dropping soon”

Yep, the pit is once again hitting the high seas.

Promoters Choose Your Cruise have confirmed the return comes directly off the back of overwhelming demand for the inaugural Hellbound, which is set to go down this October 2026 and sold out faster than anything in the company’s 15-year history.

For those playing catch-up: Hellbound is exactly what it sounds like – a floating metal festival slash community slash recovery test, bringing together heavy bands, die-hard fans and an immersive onboard experience that leans fully into metal culture.

The first Hellbound already raised eyebrows with a ridiculously stacked Aussie lineup, headlined by Parkway Drive, alongside Polaris, Northlane, The Butterfly Effect, Make Them Suffer, In Hearts Wake, Windwaker, Ocean Sleeper, Future Static and more – all moshing it out on a custom-built pool deck stage somewhere in international waters.

Hellbound II promises to drop anchor even harder.

While the 2027 lineup won’t be revealed until Monday, February 2, organisers have confirmed the sequel cruise will once again feature:

  • A massive metal lineup
  • Multiple stages across the ship
  • Immersive events and themed nights
  • Artist-hosted experiences
  • And a port stop at Tangalooma, where punters can briefly swap circle pits for dolphin feeding, snorkelling shipwrecks and sand tobogganing before getting back to business

Key dates for your calendar:

  • Lineup announced: Monday 2 February
  • Presale: Wednesday 4 February
  • General sale: Thursday 5 February

Given how quickly the first one vanished, it’s safe to assume Hellbound II won’t be hanging around either.

Metal festivals have conquered paddocks, warehouses, stadiums and now – officially – the high seas. If you’ve ever wanted to throw down to breakdowns while the ship gently rocks beneath your feet, Hellbound II is your next chance.

Sharpen your cutlass. Guard your cabin. And maybe book leave early…

February in Sydney is about to feel very, very euphoric.

TRANSGENRE – the largest grassroots initiative championing trans and non-binary voices in Australian music – has teamed up with Metro A.i.R to launch Euphoria Month, a brand new free concert series taking over Metro Social (the reborn Metro Lair) every single Wednesday throughout February.

“Our hope is that artists find new fans, and that everyone who comes along makes some new friends of their own.”

In other words? Gadigal Country is about to become a glittering, joyous, sonic sanctuary of trans talent – and we are SO here for it.

Each night has its own distinct flavour, but the throughline is simple: uplifting, empowering, community-minded shows that spotlight the future stars of Aussie pop, rock, metal and indie.

Night One (Feb 4) kicks things off with dreamy indie energy – from bedroom-pop rising star kayls, to the deeply emotive alt-folk of Naarm’s Sunny Morris, all topped off by Meanjin faves Worm Girlz, who’ll bring their playful, feminist punk spirit to the stage.

Night Two (Feb 11) is a full-send for the mosh lovers. Melbourne’ heavyweights’s Sage and Sundreamer will make their Sydney debuts, with local post-punk/grunge heroes Second Idol headlining off the back of their crushing debut album, Mongrel.

Night Three (Feb 18) flips the vibe into a glitter-soaked club night, led by soon-to-be pop icon Robert Baxter, joined by experimental pop brilliance from Katie Dey and high-voltage dance-punk from Awabakal firestarters Soyboy.

Then, to close things out in style, Night Four (Feb 25) celebrates the new wave of Aussie punk and emo – headlined by beloved locals Great Job!, with Melbourne’s Beth Seymour & The Lizzies delivering big feelings, and Blake Williams bringing party-starting pop-punk anthems.

TRANSGENRE co-director Ellie Robinson says the partnership with Metro A.i.R is deeply personal.

“Growing up in Sydney, we would always go to shows at the Metro Theatre and have our minds blown by how incredible it all was,” she says.

“It’s such a magical space – it’s where we made some of our best memories and met some of our closest friends. To now be able to foster that same culture of community at Metro Social is really special.”

She also highlights how intentional the lineup is – every single act features trans or non-binary representation, and each night includes at least one interstate artist, creating real touring opportunities and new connections across states.

“Our hope is that artists find new fans, and that everyone who comes along makes some new friends of their own.”

Euphoria Month follows the wildly successful second edition of the flagship TRANSGENRE festival last September – which sold out and delivered career-defining performances from artists like flowerkid, Alex The Astronaut and FVNERAL – and signals the initiative’s exciting expansion into live events across the country in 2026.

Best part? Every single show is free – you just need to RSVP via transgenre.com.au.

Hold onto your butts, Australia – Parkway Drive are coming home to Byron Bay.

After more than a decade away from their hometown stage, Byron’s most successful band ever have just been announced as headliners for Bluesfest 2026, marking their first ever major festival appearance in Byron and their first hometown show since their high school gigs back in 2014 (!!!)

“This is going to be iconic”

Sharing the news on socials, Parkway wrote: “It’s been more than a decade since we last took the stage in our hometown of Byron Bay. Coming back as one of the headliners of the legendary Bluesfest this April feels like a true homecoming. This is going to be iconic.”

And tbh? They’re not wrong.

The addition of Parkway Drive is a massive left turn for Bluesfest in the best possible way – the festival throwing its arms wide open to heavy music and welcoming one of Australia’s biggest global metal exports back to where it all began.

Festival Director Peter Noble OAM called it a historic moment, reminding fans that Parkway now operate at full arena scale after their 2024 Australian run, adding “That tells you everything you need to know about the scale… This is a major addition to the Bluesfest lineup, and something we are incredibly proud of”.

And for any metal-haters, he added: “We have always believed at Bluesfest that great music is great music, no matter the genre. If metal is not your thing, there are three other stages offering everything else you could want. But I will say this very clearly. Parkway Drive are not to be missed.”

And while Parkway’s hometown return is the headline-grabber, the latest lineup drop is stacked across the board. Neo-soul royalty Erykah Badu will make her first Bluesfest appearance since 2012, and for the first time ever she’ll play back-to-back on the same stage as Earth, Wind & Fire on Good Friday – which honestly sounds like spiritual repair work for the soul.

Meanwhile, reggae icons The Wailers are locked in for a special three-night residency celebrating 50 years of Rastaman Vibration, performing three completely different sets across the festival weekend.

All of this lands on top of an already wild Bluesfest 2026 lineup featuring legends like Split Enz, Sublime, The Black Crowes, Buddy Guy, Counting Crows, The Pogues, Marcus King Band, Xavier Rudd, The Living End and a huge wave of Aussie faves.

Bluesfest 2026 will take over the Byron Events Farm across the Easter long weekend from April 2–5, rising from the ashes after originally intending to shut up shop after its 2025 event.

And with the mighty Parkway Drive now locked and loaded, it’s shaping up to be a big’n.

Going to a music festival in Australia is starting to feel less like a rite of passage and more like a luxury item, with new research revealing that the average festival ticket price has exploded by 180% since 2004 – and it’s still climbing faster than inflation.

A new study from Culture Kings has crunched ticket data from 11 of the country’s biggest festies, finding that the average Aussie festival ticket has jumped from around $120 in 2004 to $334 in 2025. That’s more than triple the pace of inflation over the same period, and if current trends continue, punters could be staring down a $427 average ticket by 2030… and a downright spicy $546 by 2035.

“When ticket prices rise faster than wages and faster than inflation, it risks turning a shared cultural experience into a luxury.”

In plain terms: festival tickets are rising at around 6.7% every year, while inflation is ticking along at roughly 2.7%. So even if your pay packet isn’t shrinking, festival prices are still sprinting away from you.

Culture Kings ANZ President Justin Hillberg says it’s a dangerous path for one of Australia’s most cherished cultural traditions:

“Festivals are part of Australia’s cultural heartbeat,” he said. “But when ticket prices rise faster than wages and faster than inflation, it risks turning a shared cultural experience into a luxury.”

And it’s not just the big coastal blowouts feeling the squeeze:

Earth Frequency Is The Wildest Outlier

If you’re looking for the most jaw-dropping stat in the whole report, Earth Frequency is it.

The bush doof darling has gone from a humble $60 ticket in 2007 to $339 in 2025 – a mind-melting 365% increase. At its current growth rate, Earth Frequency tickets could hit $550 by 2030, rising at nearly four times the rate of inflation.

Welcome To The $500 Club

Several of Australia’s most-loved festivals are already knocking on the door of the so-called “$500 Club” – or have already walked straight through it.

  • Lost Paradise sits at $506 in 2025, and is projected to reach $663 by 2030
  • Bluesfest could rise from $482 now to $630 by 2030
  • Spilt Milk is forecast to climb from $320 to around $503 in just five years
  • Beyond The Valley could jump from $380 to nearly $487

And Bluesfest is also home to one of the biggest pricing gulfs in the country – with premium passes pushing $1,950 while entry tickets can still be found around the $85 mark.

Even the “more affordable” festivals aren’t immune. Across the entire dataset, not one event is keeping pace with inflation – they’re all outstripping it.

So… What Now?

The Culture Kings report doesn’t suggest festivals are about to implode overnight, but it does raise a pretty confronting question: How long before young fans, students and regional punters are completely priced out?

With many festivals already struggling to survive in the current economic climate, the danger is that rising prices will quietly reshape festival culture – from something open, communal and scrappy into something only the well-heeled can realistically attend.

Or, as Hillberg puts it: if things don’t change soon, the Australian festival experience might stop being a rite of passage — and start being a status symbol.

Read the full Culture Kings study here.

Ultra has officially kicked off the 2026 hype cycle, unveiling the first eight acts for next April’s festival run – and yep, EDM fans are already deep in the comment sections about it.

The global dance juggernaut will return to the Gold Coast’s Broadwater Parklands and Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne with The Chainsmokers and DJ Snake leading the charge, joined by Darren Styles, MaRLo and Oliver Heldens on both dates.

“ULTRA AUSTRALIA PHASE 1 LINEUP IS HERE”

Melbourne gets a few extra treats with Miss Monique, Zedd and Nico Moreno also jumping on the bill, giving the Victorian stop a slightly juicier first taste.

While last year’s editions sold out and pulled more than 40,000 punters across the two cities, reaction online to this initial drop has been… mixed. Some fans are still mourning the absence of 2025 headliners like Martin Garrix and Axwell, while others are banking hard on Ultra delivering a monster Phase Two announcement to really blow the doors off.

Despite the mixed early chatter, Ultra remains one of the most-loved EDM events in the country, recently ranked the #88 EDM festival in the world in DJ Mag’s readers poll – with only Beyond The Valley and Pitch Music & Arts sneaking in ahead of it on the Aussie side.

Tickets for Ultra Australia 2026 are on sale now via Ticketbooth for both Gold Coast and Melbourne, so if you’re keen to lock in a rave under the sun (or the Flemington floodlights), you know what to do.

Dust off the band tees and start emotionally budgeting now – Good Things Festival is officially coming back in 2026.

Just weeks after wrapping up its 2025 run, the festival has quietly but confidently confirmed its return next year via an email sent to attendees, alongside a cheeky nod on Insta. In the message (shared via The Music), organisers thanked punters for showing up once again and promised that the gates will be swinging open for another round of Good Things goodness in 2026.

“We will be back in 2026”

“What an amazing weekend of events that was! We are so happy to have been able to deliver another year of Good Things to the best music community in Australia, hands down,” the email read.

“Thank you for being a part of the extended GT family, and for supporting live music… We will be back in 2026 and look forward to welcoming you again next year!”

If that wasn’t clear enough, the festival doubled down with a post after the Brisbane leg wrapped up, writing: “See you in 2026, right? We’re counting the days already.”

The 2025 edition of Good Things went down across Melbourne (Dec 5), Sydney (Dec 6) – in peak “why is it THIS hot?” conditions – before closing out in Brisbane on Dec 7. TOOL topped the bill, backed by a stacked lineup featuring Weezer, Garbage, Machine Head, Dayseeker and more, once again cementing Good Things as one of the country’s biggest end-of-year heavy music rituals.

As for dates, don’t expect anything locked in just yet. Historically, Good Things likes to keep its cards close to its chest, but if past years are anything to go by, December 2026 is a very safe bet.

For now, punters can officially start the countdown – and the group chat speculation – knowing that Good Things will, indeed, be back.
